introduction about the Himilo
Himilo reading and writing academy was established on
February 14, 2013. From the time of its establishment till today, the academy
has implemented many projects and programs. Himilo’s vision is to get a
community where reading and writing is part of their and the mission of the
academy is through creating incentives for reading and writing and through
research. Himilo Academy implements policies, programs, projects and plans to promote
reading and writing of the community. Himilo academy is where readers, writers
and poets are prepared.
Earlier Himilo was just a reading club which displays books of the other writers in small or big event. after the scope of the club has been expanded Himilo's name changed into Himilo Reading and Writing Academy.

academy has the following annual programs the big competition for stories named
“MAANTABA SHEEKO KEEN” which means roughly “bring a story today”, “HARGEYSA IYO
HABEENKA HAL-ABUURKA DA’DA YAR” which “hargeisa and the night of young poets”.
also there are other main programs which occurs according to the organizational
plan like “HAL-DOOR iyo HAL-DOOR” which means “knowledge provider and knowledge
seeker” this event is met by these two groups, “BANDHIGA IYO DAAHFURKOODA
BUUGAAGTA” means “the exhibition of books and their discussion” and the last
program is THE FIKIRKAAB(think helper) which is awareness creation program having three main
projects targeted to schools, university and the community in general through
media.
"BRING A STORY TODAY" the competition of story writing
the competition is announced through media. participants has forty days to submit their story after the due date ends, the academy's committee for the competition decides which story passes to the second stage of the competition and finally an independent group of national writers/authors select the best five stories. the announcement of the winners is held through big event where they are awarded the top three are specially awarded.

Hargeisa and the night of young poets
this night a group of selected young poets share and show their creativity in making poems. they are given enough time to explain and read their poetry. this is very crucial time for them as it is their first time to come in front of large crowd.

this event is mainly a public lecture in the universities. respected elites are invited and bring their lecture.
